it's more of a conceptual shot, in the sense of a man-made lamp making the light of the sun. i'm not sure about the actual aesthetics of the shot, but my goal was to catch that idea of how man has managed to control the resources and generally all of nature around him...
i've been listening to the TED talks lately you should definately check them out at www.ted.com .
also i'm looking for ideas from you guys on a theme to photograph on, say one week of photographing just that subject. give me input, come on, don't be shy. and fellow photobloggers, let's do it together ;)

@Orko: thanks :)
so u want a theme .. that's challenging, but we have to debate on that somewhere else :P the photo is interesting .. at first if u see it small and far away it looks like a tesla coil :O ain't that amazing .. anyway, i think u could have used a bit of flash :D
3 Jul 2007 3:17pm
@zoloper: i did use a bit of flash, actually i used a lot of flash (FULL FLASH). that's how i didn't just get a sillhouette. and that's why there's like a light on the glass. more was impossible with my current gear :(
as for the theme, yeah why not... i mean something urban could work i guess...
spendid colors!

@Cathie et Michel: thanks you guys :)
edit was quite delicate and light...

very nice the way the lamp post seems to be punching a hole through the clouds

@RoBeRt: thanks richard, it was an attempt to line it up with the sun...

@Navdeep: thanks

Cool shot, but too bad (I think) that it's in the middle, I think with the rule of thirds it will be a Super shot !
4 Jul 2007 2:15am
@ColNed Pictures: you know i find the rule of thirds to be as much of a junky idea as diet coke is. everybody bitches about how much better it would be if you did it that way. well, actually, it's just as crappy. now i don't mean to be agressive or anything but it just pisses me off when i see all these people saying central subject bad thirds good. well who sais so. i believe most of my photos have a central or central-biased framing and most work. this is just a sub par shot so no amount of cropping or reframing would revive it. imho.
but thanks for sharing your constructive comment, i wish more people would take the time to make suggestions. thanks again for the visit and the comment mate, and don't take the fact that i hate being told about the thirds personally; it's just that i know of it and i chose not to use it... and again thanks for telling me anyway :)
Hey dude no problem !... I just I was thinking how it might look in that way, nobody is telling you what to do or how to do it.. you do it in the way you want... that's all.. And the rule is based on the golden ratio it's a fact. But again, I love the shot no doubt..
5 Jul 2007 2:05am
@ColNed Pictures: i just read a bit about how the rule of thirds can be used with really bad effects. it was interesting. it's indeed a tool but in itself is becoming a cliche..
and again thanks for the advice, it really is a useful thing.
and hey, chill, you don;t need to just say that, i know myself it's no more than an ok shot. but again, thanks :)
Excellent! Striking; nicely processed.

@Daroru: Thanks Daroru, it was a concept and I really had no idea how to capture it the right way but apparently it worked, eh? :)
thanks again mate, be sure to come visit this week, there are a few landscapes you may like and if not an experiment which well, if not set the house on fire, will be quite interesting to photograph..
